The tools, located in the lower left section of the window are used to manipulate the diagrams. The tools are grouped by diagram type (although Gaphor doesn't distinguish different diagram types), for example Classes and Actions. by clicking on the name the box expands and the tool can be selected. Once a tool is selected the item can be placed on the diagram.
